Biographical note: Guillaume Guindey (1909-89), former General Manager
Guillaume Guindey was General Manager of the BIS from 1 October 1958 until 31 March 1963.
He was a Finance Inspector at the French Ministry of Finance (1932-42), and was in charge of the International Finance department at the Finance Ministry in Algiers (1943-44) and in Paris (1946-53). From 1953 to 1958, he was the president and general manager of the Mines de cuivre de Mauritanie (Mauritanian copper mines).
From 1964 to 1972, Mr Guindey was the president of the Supervisory Board of the Caisse centrale de coopération économique at the French Ministry of Finance and Economics. In 1967, he was appointed a member of the French Legion of Honour, and in 1979 he became a member of the French Academy of Sciences.
Mr Guindey held a master's degree in philosophy from the École Libre des Sciences Politiques (now Sciences Po) in Paris.
