Biographical note: Günther Schleiminger (1921-2008), former General Manager
Günther Schleiminger was General Manager of the BIS from 1 March 1981 until 30 April 1985.
He was an alternate member of the Managing Board of the European Payments Union (EPU) for Germany, and Chairman of the EPU Group of Alternates from 1952 until 1958. From 1958 to 1968, he was the head of the division for European monetary questions at the Deutsche Bundesbank. Mr Schleiminger served as the executive director for Germany at the International Monetary Fund from 1968 to 1974.
He joined the BIS in 1975 as Secretary General and from 1978 to 1981 was Assistant General Manager.
Mr Schleiminger held a degree in economics from Königsberg University, and a PhD in economics from Berlin and Kiel Universities.
