Biographical note: Milton Gilbert (1909-79), former Economic Adviser
Milton Gilbert was Economic Adviser of the BIS from 1 November 1960 until 31 December 1975.
He was chief of the National Income Division at the US Department of Commerce from 1941 to 1951. From 1951 until 1960, he was the Director of Statistics and then Director of Economics at the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation (OEEC, now the OECD) in Paris.
Mr Gilbert held a PhD in economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
